The game was revered by many but somehow not profitable enough.

Titanfall 2 had all the cards in its hands. It was a sequel to a fantastic game, done by the same studio, came out really well, and was praised by everyone. To top that, the devs decided to support the game post launch with free updates – like this fantastic one.

Respawn’s Vince Zampella, in a talk with Gamespot, justified what happened to the game:

The game was successful, it sold well, but it didn’t quite sell as well as it should have. Maybe because it was super-crowded, the pricing was aggressive–it was a rough window to launch our game.

Apparently, it’s not enough to have a good game released. Zampella also talked about upcoming projects:

“Stig Asmussen, who previously worked on the God of War franchise, has been leading a separate team that has been quietly working away on our Star Wars title. That project is still wrapped in secrecy and we won’t be talking about it for a while.”

Titanfall 2 is out now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
