The books of Andrzej Sapkowski are getting a new, much more adequate TV series (than one produced by Polish public television, whose pinnacle achievement was a golden dragon straight from Care Bears).

Netflix, Sean Daniel Company and Platige Image confirmed that the companies are now producing an English series based on The Witcher. And while you might instantly think about the games from CD Project RED, the upcoming episodes will be based on the source material, the books of Andrzej Sapkowski.

Tomek Baginski, the author of the Oscar-nominated short titled The Cathedral, will direct “at least one episode of each season” (that, basically, confirms a long-lived plan for the series). Sapkowski will serve as a creative consultant on the series.

As for now, we’ll need to wait a bit to see if it’s an animated series in the manner of the trailer for The Witcher games created by Platige Image or a full live action series.
