Another year, another sad loss for the gaming community. The legendary studio behind Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, to mention their latest projects, has unfortunately been closed by their parent company, Warner Bros. Games.

Founded in 1994, Monolith is responsible first and foremost for a slew of iconic FPS games in the 90s. After all, they created the Blood series, known for its dark atmosphere (and humor, too), creative level designs, and insane amounts of violence. They made Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, No One Lives Forever, F.E.A.R., Condemned. They made Captain Claw and Gruntz (ah, the memories).

Monolith Productions was also known for its in-house LithTech engine, used in quite a list of games, including plenty by other studios.

The company was working on a game about Wonder Woman prior to its shutdown. The game has been cancelled as well, with Warner Bros. Games refocusing their efforts on core intellectual properties, seeking to return to their “fewer, but bigger franchises” strategy.
