Warhammer: Vermintide 2 launched back in 2018, and has improved and expanded significantly since then, but one thing kept being pushed into the future: the PvP Versus mode. Now, the wait is over!
The PvP mode has finally stopped skulking in the shadows and became publicly available, pitting the Ubersreik’s five (or four, it doesn’t matter) heroes against not only a horde of disposable Skaven vermin, but also player-controlled specialists, all of whom might have ruined your missions many times if you’ve spent any time at all playing the campaign.
It’s an asymmetrical mode: U5’s objective is to get through a level, earning points by making progress.
The Pactsworn’s job is to say “absolutely not” and preventing the heroes from making headway. You will probably be killed, but that’s fine, all Skaven are disposable, especially to other Skaven.
There’s no shortage of specialized cannon fodder, you’ll respawn really quickly.
There are five Pactsworn to pick from:
- The Gutter Runner – an assassin with counter-intuitively glowing blades. Runner can Pounce on heroes, grappling them to the ground and stabbing repeatedly. Pouncing is also a great mobility asset.
- The Packmaster – this one can use a hook to grab onto a Hero preventing them from doing anything and possibly hanging them out to dry while you go searching for another victim.
- The Warpfire Thrower – a big rat with a big toxic flamethrower.
- The Ratling Gunner – a big rat with a big Gatling gun
- The Poison Wind Globadier – a mix of crowd control and damage dealer, Globadier chucks gas grenades.
Thankfully, all specials are rather noisy when they move, much like in co-op campaign, so the heroes aren’t completely screwed.
The Versus mode is out now and free for all owners of Vermintide 2. Don’t have it yet? Get one on our marketplace! Or four, to give to your friends!
