In a very pleasantly surprising turn of events, Subnautica 2 got formally announced, complete with a trailer. And this time it’s not just a solo experience.
From the trailer, released during Xbox Game Preview, it seems that we’re ditching the frigid depths of the previous game in the series (Subnautica: Below Zero) for the tropical waters of a new planet, filled with life forms we’ve never seen before in the series, including a gigantic arthropod.

The actual big deal, however, is that Subnautica 2 is going to be playable in 4-person co-op multiplayer, unlike its solitary predecessors. It’s an interesting development, and gathering supplies and building a base will certainly be smoother when you aren’t the only person to do everything.
Subnautica 2 is set to launch in Early Access sometime in 2025, and is available for wishlisting right now.
