The first DLC for Far Cry 5, about which I expressed copious amounts of hope, is here. But at the same time it’s… Not? Let me explain.

The DLC was supposed to become available on June the 5th, but it hit something of a roadblock. Apparently Steam users find themselves in an interesting predicament– they can download the thing, but not play it. Meanwhile Ubisoft support gives them a stock response of “check in the setting and click play”, which, yeah, thanks Ubi, probably tried that.

Ubisoft is apparently aware of the issue, but don’t know when it will be fixed. I mean don’t get me wrong, I like how Hours of Darkness is preceded by literal hours of darkness, but despite how conspiratorial tone recent stirrings of Ubisoft have become, something tells me this is not a part of the master plan.

Who knows, maybe they’re taking the “only winning move is not to play” message of Far Cry 5 to its ultimate conclusion and are giving us a hint here. I guess in Far Cry 6 launching the game will prompt a “are you sure you want to run Far Cry 6.exe?” pop-up.
