Everything shown during the February 2025 State of Play
New year, new games, new State of Play showcasing all the cool titles coming to PlayStation (but not exclusively!) this year. There was a whole lot shown off, so let’s get to it!
NOTE: unless otherwise specified, all announced launch dates are planned for this year.
Monster Hunter Wilds
The upcoming inevitable hit by Capcom got a flashy trailer two weeks ahead of its actual February 28th release date. It also announced the first monster which will be added post-release: the elegant Mizutsune, last seen in Monster Hunter Rise.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance
SEGA presented a game from the makers of Streets of Rage 4, a slashy and flashy Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. It’s going to be an action-packed, 2D game evoking old-school titles such as original Ninja Gaiden, but wrapped in evocative art style. It’s coming on August 29.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
SEGA still on a roll, presented a game about the world’s fastest hedgehog getting his need for speed from a sports car. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The trailer shows off several worlds, a whole bunch of characters, multiple modes of locomotion, and a very relaxed dinosaur. No launch date shown, but if you gotta go fast right now, you can sign up for the closed network test happening on February 21st.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger
Digimon is back in business, with a new game about the digital monsters. Not a lot is known about Digimon Story: Time Stranger, but it’s going to feature travelling through time, space and other dimensions, turn-based battles, and extensive story. No exact release date is known beyond “2025”.
Lost Soul Aside
If there aren’t enough spectacular action games in your life, take a look at Lost Soul Aside. It’s going to be a over-the-top, fantastical romp across dimensions with cool swords, awesome-looking enemies, and a flair for the dramatic, which gives it a good shot at joining the ranks of games like Bayonetta or DMC. It arrives on May 30th, by the way.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii plus a Dave the Diver crossover
Two more announcements from SEGA, for good measure.
The latest installment of the Like a Dragon series, launching on February 20th got a demo ahead of release, showcasing a fair bit of what Goro’s going to be doing in his Pirate era.
Meanwhile, in April Dave the Diver gets a crossover DLC with Ichiban Kasuga, whose time off doesn’t really involve being “off”.
Splitgate 2
If you’ve got a hankering to get into the physics-based, science fiction, first-person shooter Splitgate 2 ahead of it release, good news! It’s getting an PS5 alpha test starting on February 27th, with a three-way PvP for up to 24 players.
WWE W2K25
The upcoming professional wrestling-themed game announced The Island, a virtual community hub styled as a huge theme park devoted to WWE. There are said to be live event, extensive customization options, and even dedicated quests. WWE2K25 arrives in full on March 14th.
Borderlands 4
Borderlands 4, coming hot on the heels of movie which failed to capture the series appeal, announced its launch date after a thrilling montage of the thing the series does best: intensive shooting with an arsenal of increasingly over-the-top guns. BL4 arrives on September 23th.
Split Fiction
Hazelight Studios, makers of the finest story-driven, co-op, action adventure games come Split Fiction, a game about two writers who get shunted into the worlds they created and need to learn how to work together to get through it. It Takes Two proved Hazelight are masters of the premise. Split Fiction comes on March 6th.
Directive 8020
Supermassive Games are coming back with a new interactive horror movie, and this time they are going into spaaaaaaaace with Directive 8020, a science fiction story about a starship crew dealing with an alien impostor with murderous intent and talent for sabotage. It might sound like Among Us, but it looks more like a tribute to Alien and The Thing. Prepare to vent on October 2nd
Five Nights at Freddy’s Secret of the Mimic
It’s time to return to the world of horrifying animatronics and creepy suits with FNAF: Secret of the Mimic. You’ll be playing as a luckless fellow sent to retrieve a shapeshifting costume from a warehouse so clearly haunted the dispatcher in the trailer tells you to get your affairs in order. You’ll be able to FNAF around and find out on June 13th.
The Midnight Walk
The Midnight Walk was presented by its creators as a cozy horror game, which is certainly a mix of words we don’t get to hear every day. Instead of typical CGI it uses stop-motion of clay figures, which might just deliver on the promise of these words, because it looks incredibly weird (in the best way), creepy, and oddly approachable. Your Midnight Walk begins on May 8th.
Darwin’s Paradox
Konami made an appearance too, with a cute game about an octopus called Darwin trying to escape a food processing facility ran by aliens. It’s a 2.5D action adventure with a measure of stealth and platforming, but doesn’t appear to be quite as harrowing as Inside or Little Nightmares. It arrives sometime this year.
Warriors: Abyss
It didn’t take long after the launch of Dynasty Warriors: Origins for Koei Tecmo and Omega Force to announce another Warriors game. It looks like a child of Hades-inspired roguelikes and Warriors, with swathes of enemies, sweeping attacks… but instead of the Romance of Three Kingdoms, we’re going to hell. And it’s out now!
Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny
Capcom returned to show off a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, perhaps to get people hot for the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword coming later this year. Onimusha 2 originally launched in 2002, so it’s nice to see it revived after over two decades. The remaster launches on May 23rd.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Speak of the genma! We got to meet the protagonist of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the legendary (and real) sword master Miyamoto Musashi, or at least his fictional, demon-killing version wearing the face of Toshiro Mifune himself. Not a surprise, given the recent Onimusha anime. You won’t open Musashi’s Book of Five Rings until 2026, however.
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater
While the future of the Metal Gear series is uncertain at best, the series has plenty of past excellence to tap into for a nice remaster or remake. Take Snake Eater, for example: a full remake of the 2004 original, launching on August 28th with graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5.
Hell Is Us
How about a large amount of supernatural weirdness inflicted upon a fictitious country in the middle of a civil war? Hell Is Us is an action-adventure game set in a country of Hadea which suffered from a mysterious phenomenon known only as the Calamity. Your journey into the unknown begins on September 4th.
Lies of P: Overture DLC
Prepare your P-Organs for a major expansion, because Lies of P is getting a large DLC which appears to adapt even more things from the Adventures of Pinocchio. Lies of P: Overture starts playing in the Summer of 2025, which is very ironic, given its wintry aesthetics.
Dreams of Another
If you’re worn down by shooters always looking like the same military fantasy, try Dreams of Another for a change. This game uses pixel like an impressionist painter uses dots to create a world which looks quite surreal, but at the same time incredibly evocative. It centers its gameplay on shooting the unformed chaos to materialize it into an interactable world.
Days Gone Remastered
One of the best post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested, single-player games in recent years is getting its snazzy PS5-powered Remastered, and it’s coming with a bunch new features, ranging from new content to accessibility options. The new features are also coming to the PC version. Expect the horde on April 25th.
Stellar Blade colab with Goddess of Victory: Nikke; PC release
In June, Stellar Blade, last year’s spectacle fighter is getting a twofer: a content collaboration with Goddess of Victory: Nikke which includes new clothes for Eve, and a break from SB’s initial platform exclusivity, as it arrives on PC in full glory.
PlayStation Plus lightning round
Unsurprising to anybody, PlayStation propped up its game subscription service, announcing the arrivals of games such as Jedi Survivor and Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, an episodic adventure from the studio behind Life is Strange. Both Survivor and Lost Records Episode 1 get on PS Plus on February 18th.
Blue Prince
Blue Prince is a game about exploring a manor which, thanks to mechanical marvels beyond our comprehension, never really stays the same. Every time you encounter a closed door, you get to decide what kind of room, and, as a result what kind of challenge, awaits you. This architectural adventure comes later this year for PS5 and PC.
Abiotic Factor
Gather up your friends and give a chance to this survival game about defending an odd facility deep underground. Crafting, weird enemies, six-player co-op, good stuff. The trip into the bowels of Earth begins in Summer 2025
Tides of Annihilation
Arthurian mythos is always a fun source of inspiration, and Tides of Annihilation is no exception. The trailer shows glimpses of VERY wrecked London, mentions Holy Grail, and if nobody uses the actual Excalibur, it would be a surprise. ToA is going to be a spectacular action game with quite some DMC and Bayonetta DNA. No release date was provided so far, however.
Metal Eden
A first-person shooter with a fair bit of parkour, kinetic combat, and a grappling hook? Sounds like a great time, in a still drastically underserved gameplay niche. Couple that with a cool science fiction setting, and you’ve got a perfect thing to help you forget about Titanfall 3. Metal Eden will welcome you on May 6th.
MindsEye
MindsEye is going to be a science fiction action adventure game, following the story of a soldier who’s cybernetic implant seems to come with more problems than solutions, resulting in an explosive storyline involving robots and looking for unpleasant answers. We’ll be opening our MindsEye in Summer 2025
Saros
Finally, the State of Play showed off Saros, an science-fantasy action game planned for 2026. It takes place on a planet experiencing intense monster problems during a solar eclipse. Not much else is known, but it is a successor to Returnal, and we should get a gameplay trailer later this year.
Mark your calendars
And that about covers it, all the announcements, reveals and updates from the State of Play 2025. It’s going to be quite a year.
