Given half a chance, players will gladly spend hours in a sufficiently advanced character creator, completely ignoring a perfectly fine game hidden behind it, waiting to be enjoyed. Which is why Capcom, in an incredibly smart move, decided to meet player’s tendencies halfway.
As a clever and, if online response is any metric, incredibly successful marketing ploy, Capcom released a standalone character creator for the upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2. It’s completely free, available for download, and, frankly, very impressively designed and planned.
First of all, it’s very powerful, easily capable of producing both absolutely gorgeous characters and your next sleep paralysis demon, which means, obviously, a ton of digital cosplay as people have really gone to town and pushed the system to the limit. Unlike the first game, it also isn’t limited to humans – catlike Beastren are also available.
Second, it’s not just a creator, it’s also a storage. It allows users to make five potential player characters and five potential pawns, letting them test the limits of what’s possible. Unfortunately, you’ll only be able to take one Arisen and one Pawn into the game, but that’s a worry for another time.
If you would like to play around with Dragon’s Dogma 2 Character Creator, it’s available for free on Steam, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s uncertain if it will remain available once DD2 launches on March 22, so don’t wait too long.
