The decade-long wait is almost over and Dragon Age: The Veilguard is basically right around the corner. It’s a perfect time to talks specifics.

EA and Bioware clearly reached the same conclusion, and in a comprehensive blog post they provided not only robust system requirements, but also preload times, and attitude towards third-party DRMs. Let’s tackle all that in an orderly fashion.

System requirements:

The original blog post included two sets of requirements: the Minimum-Recommended-Ultra specs, as well as a second table for people who would like to play with RTX on. It’s quite handy, take a look yourself.

If you’re only interested in the usual Minimum and Recommended, here they are, in plain text:

Minimum Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 3 3300X*
  • Memory: 16GB
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 970/1650 / AMD Radeon R9 290X
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 100GB available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD Preferred, HDD Supported; AMD CPUs on Windows 11 require AGESA V2 1.2.0.7

Recommended Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i9-9900K / AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Memory: 16GB
  • Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 2070 / AMD Radeon RX 5700XT
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 100GB SSD available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD Required; AMD CPUs on Windows 11 require AGESA V2 1.2.0.7

Preload timeline:

Preloads will only be available for Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5 users, and will go live according to the following schedule:

  • Xbox Series X|S: October 14th 9AM PDT
  • Playstation 5: October 29th 9AM PDT

Unfortunately, PC will not get to enjoy preloading in this instance. The blog post cites the lack of third-party DRM as the reason. Given the almost universally negative attitude players have towards services such as Denuvo, it seems like an acceptable trade-off.

Do remember that preloading doesn’t give early access to the game itself, which will become active and playable according to its normal release schedule.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launches on October 31st as the first DA game launch in ten years. Will you be there?
