Announced at E3 2017, the 2nd installment prequel to Beyond Good an Evil, Ubisoft’s Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been chugging along nicely in development. Now we have some better idea of what the gameplay might look like.

Now, it may look very bare bones, but this is absolutely to be expected- this is a very early build of the game, so of course it’s not gonna be breath-taking, but what we were given gives us a glimpse of things to come.

In particular the emphasis on moving in 3-dimensional space is interesting, because it goes somewhat outside the scope of your usual, Ubisfot’s open-world game. I mean sure you use a helicopter in Far Cry 5, but that’s not the same as being able to fly around with a jet-pack. This kind of gear could be used creatively for puzzle elements in the game’s world and change the way the setting is even approached.

The ship flying is also an interesting idea. I mean I do have bad flashbacks to a certain game where you were supposed to fly a ship in a living universe, nomansky buuut maybe this one is gonna be good. The addition of co-op is actually a huge sell for me, because from playing Border Lands I know how an addition of friends and some emergent storytelling can turn an otherwise bleak experience into a blast.

Not much to say about combat, it looks fairly standard. Though an emphasis on melee could turn it into an action game, which I very much like.

Still no idea what the story is though. Or the characters. Or themes. Personally I’m worried. Your mileage may vary.
