Vampire Survivors is a fairly new, dynamic game that combines several genres and mechanics. In the game, players take on the roles of heroes whose task is to survive for as long as possible in an arena constantly filling with enemies.
This title is fun, simple, and available on many platforms – it quickly gained tremendous popularity. Players are captivated by its simplicity, fast-paced character development, and unlocking of new heroes. How to unlock them all? How to get secret characters? Welcome to our guide!
A Few Words About the Game
Firstly, let’s talk about Vampire Survivors itself. It’s a game that combines elements of action, survival, bullet hell shooter, RPG, and rogue-lite. It features simple 2D graphics inspired by older NES and PS1 titles. The game was created and released by Poncle Studios and debuted on PC on October 10th, 2022.
Rapidly, within less than a month, the game was available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X, and in December, it hit mobile platforms (Android, iOS). In August 2023, it arrived on the Switch.
As mentioned earlier, players are drawn to this title because of its simplicity and fun factor. This game is excellent for relaxing after school or work, and its multiplayer mode on a shared screen is fantastic for parties.
For many players, the title also brings a bit of nostalgia – a mechanically uncomplicated 2D game with pixelated graphics, a top-down view, where our task is to fight hordes of monsters alongside 1–3 players on a shared screen. Is it already 2024, or is it still 1995?
Despite its simplicity and dynamic gameplay, Vampire Survivors has a storyline. The plot is set in Italy in 2021. Evil Bisconte Draculó, through magic, summoned hordes of monsters, spectres, and demons to seize power over the city, and then – the whole world. So, we embody members of the Belpaese family and their kin, the only ones with enough strength, courage, and skills to defeat Bisconte Draculó.
However, before we can get our hands on the malevolent vampire, we must defeat hordes of his minions in various locations.
In the game, our task is the aforementioned battle against hordes of monsters, but the main goal is to keep our character alive for as long as possible. Additionally, we can develop our character, use upgraded equipment, and embody many different heroes – each of them has unique abilities, arsenal, and special skills.
To survive and make progress in the game, we must constantly move, defeat enemies, and collect experience crystals dropped by them.
However, not all heroes unlock as the game progresses. To acquire some of them, we must reach specific places, find hidden items, or complete specific tasks. Would you like to know how to unlock all the heroes?
Certainly, unlocking the Secrets Menu will be helpful – it shows hints to unlocking secret characters and gives the ability to cast spells. It can be unlocked after obtaining the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane. Haven’t unlocked it yet but would like to have a few new characters? Unlockable Characters
- Arca Ladonna – Fire Wand must be at level four.
- Bianca Ramba – 3000 milk elementals must be defeated in Dairy Plant.
- Christine Davain – Pentagram must be at level seven.
- Concetta Caciotta – go to the Gallo Tower and find and open the coffin by destroying all enemies around it.
- Divano Thelma – Crimson Shroud weapon evolution must be unlocked.
- Dommario – 5000 coins in a single run must be earned.
- Giovanna Grana – go to the Inlaid Library and find and open the coffin by destroying all enemies around it.
- Iguana Gallo Valletto – the Infinite Corridor weapon evolution must be unlocked.
- Krochi Freetto – 100,000 enemies must be defeated.
- Lama Ladonna – survive 20 minutes with at least 10% curse.
- Mortaccio – 3000 skeletons must be defeated.
- O’Sole Meeo – 3000 Dragon Shrimps must be defeated in Gallo Tower.
- Poe Ratcho – Garlic must be at level seven.
- Porta Ladonna – Lighting Ring must be at level four.
- Poppea Pecorina – go to the Dairy Plant, find and open the coffin by destroying all enemies around it.
- Pugnala Provola – go to the Mad Forest, find and open the coffin by destroying all enemies around it.
- Queen Sigma – complete the collection.
- She-Moon Eeta – survive 20 minutes on Whiteout.
- Sir Ambrojoe – 6000 Stage Killers must be killed in Cappella Magna.
- Zi’Assunta Belpahese – go to the Cappella Magna, find and open the coffin by destroying all enemies around it.
- Yatta Cavallo – 3000 Lion Heads must be defeated.
Secret Characters
- Anima of Mortaccio – it is a temporary form of Mortaccio that can be unlocked by having the Chaos Malachite when the character reaches level 80. It lasts the rest of the run.
- Big Trouser – fully upgrade all 16 passive items in Moongolow.
- Clerici – recover a total of 1000 HP.
- Exdash – type the command ‘x-x1viiq’ on the main menu, and after a chime sound, your character will be unlocked.
- Gains Boros – go to the Bone Zone, head north and find the green circle with flowers. Pass the silver ring and keep walking until you find it. Stand inside this area until you hear the unlock sound.
- Gyorunton – survive 15 minutes in Boss Rash with only one weapon enabled.
- Her Royal Shadow – go through 46 doors in the Astral Stairs.
- Leda – go to the Gallo Tower area, and head south until Leda appears. The screen will go darker, and the music becomes ominous when you are close to the right area. Defeat Leda, and she will be unlocked as a new playable character.
- Peppino – use Celestial Dusting to heal plants at Il Molise. You have to use healing for a total of 100,000 health points.
- Profusione D’Amore – go to the Tiny Bridge, and head west until you find the Chaos Altemanna, where you can find and unlock the character.
- Red Death – kill Death after time runs out. To unlock this character, you require both Crimson Shroud and Infinite Corridor weapon evolutions.
- Scorej-Oni – go to the Tiny Bridge, head all the way to the east until you’ll find a boss. Defeat him to unlock Scorej-Oni.
- Yatta Daikarin – it is a temporary form for Yatta Cavallo that can be unlocked by having Chaos Rosaria when the character reaches level 80. This form lasts for the rest of the run.
Characters Requiring Perseverance
- Avatar Infernas – to unlock this character you have to have: Greatest Jubilee, Ebony Wings, and Peachone weapons. Two latest without evolving them. Go to the Inverted Inlaid Library and proceed towards the right. Avoid activating the ghosts by staying at the top of the screen as you pass them. Find a purple trickster playing the piano, and eliminate him while evading the explosives he summons. Upon defeating the trickster, approach the piano and play the keys according to the pattern indicated by the birds. Then, the screen will alter, prompting you to explore each coffin surrounding you. The final coffin will open, revealing a boss whom you must defeat to unlock Avatar Infernas.
- Boon Marrabbio – go to Mad Forest, make the shadow appear and defeat it. To achieve it, collect both the Skull and Pummarola items, then start collecting chickens from braziers (the Clover increases the chance of spawning braziers) until pies begin to appear. Eat the pies and the shadow will spawn.
- Cosmo Pavone – go to the Capella Magna with no eggs. Take with you the Peachone and Ebony Wings weapons, as well as Arcana I. Walk towards the Crown and Tiragisu items, then you should see a Nduja Fritta Tanto on a balcony nearby – pick it up, and a gate will open. Grab the bird sitting on the balcony to unlock Cosmo Pavone character.
- Minnah Mannarah – go to Dairy Plant, make the werewolves appear and defeat them. To achieve it, pick Arcana VIII – Mad Groove, start your run, and collect the cheese that appears. Then fight the werewolves. Important note: if a werewolf despawns instead of dying, you won’t unlock Minnah Mannarah.
- missingN – go to Green Acres and kill 128 Winged Giant Eyes. To achieve that, get the Yellow Sign and start your run with both Hyper and Hurry options ticked (you’ll also need some upgrades to kill the monsters quickly, as they can be tough). Head southwest until the screen glitches and Winged Giant Eyes start to appear.
- Smith – type the command ‘spam’ in the main menu, then click start and type ‘spam’ again, in the character select menu. Choose a character and type ‘spam’ once again, in the stage select menu. Start the level and pick your Arcana, then type the command ‘humbug’ to unlock Smith. Important note: unlocking both Exdash and Toastie first may be required.
- Toastie – kill either a Stalker or Drowner, then press the ‘down arrow’ and ‘enter’ keys both at the same time, when Toastie appears on the bottom right of your screen. You need to be quick as his appearance only lasts half a second. Important note: unlocking Toastie requires you to unlock Exdash first.

As you can see, it’s quite extensive, and unlocking some heroes poses quite a challenge for players!
