Now, let’s take a more detailed look at three of the most promising games slated for a 2024 release. Naturally, there are more big titles coming our way.

Star Wars Outlaws

EA no longer has exclusive rights to producing Star Wars games. Now Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment can have a shot at that.

From what we’ve seen so far it’s a great-looking action-adventure game featuring an open world. If you don’t count any of Star Wars’ MMORPGs, this is probably the first title of this kind in the franchise. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Outlaws lets you play as Kay Vess, a scoundrel who’s planning a daring, one-of-a-kind heist.

This will take her to several planets and moons, including Tatooine (at this point it seems to be a staple in the saga…) and Toshara, a place featured in the gameplay trailers.

While there might be fears that this might be Ubisoft’s typical run-of-the-mill open-world game, it seems really fun and looks really good. Space combat is promising, too. Coupled with a score composed by Wilbert Roget II, this might be next big thing in the Star Wars universe. We’re not sure when it’s getting released, though: Ubisoft is planning for 2024, but various things might happen along the way.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl

One of the most immersive and unique blends of first-person shooters, survival games and RPGs is getting a sequel, one that looks very, very promising.

The title will take us back to the Zone where anomalies, radioactive mutants and events verging on supernatural abound. As one of the titular stalkers, you will embark on a mission that will change the fate of this land. Once again it’s going to be a blend of first-person shooters, survival simulation and RPG, featuring non-linear, demanding gameplay. What fun!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl runs on Unreal Engine 5 and looks absolutely gorgeous. This stunner of a game, aside from a robust single-player campaign, will receive the multiplayer mode some time after the release as a free update to the base game. Mods will also be officially supported. Are you ready to go back to the Zone? The Heart of Chornobyl will start beating and beckoning to you in Q1 2024.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was already a terrific cinematic action-adventure game (and a great simulation of psychosis, according to many) and the sequel seeks to up the ante.

From what we’ve seen so far, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is going to be even darker and more ominous than its predecessor, which is an impressive feat. The game will surely be stunning visually. Gameplay-wise, not really much is known about this aspect, but we’re pretty sure it’s going to be more of the same, just updated and with interesting new additions and features.

After all, it’s more of a cinematic experience than a regular action-adventure game, more concerned with the narrative and psychological elements than stuff like combat, for example. Either way, we’re probably in for another gloomy treat.

Aside from the big new releases, 2024 will see lots of DLCs drop for many of your favorite games. As in the above, we’ve picked three most promising expansion packs planned for the next year. Once again, these are just our personal picks and there are plenty more to come.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape

The Light and Darkness Saga is finally coming to an end.

The Final Shape will conclude the story that was unfolding over the last ten years and will have the players finally face the Witness, the collective consciousness of the Darkness. The expansion will take us to a place known as the Pale Heart, located within the Traveler.

Of course, this means new weapons and gear, new missions, PvP and PvE maps, and raids. The DLC also ditches the seasonal model of previous expansions, instead offering three episodes, each a standalone experience. It’s too bad the release of The Final Shape was delayed to June 4, 2024, but we can probably expect top-notch content and lots of new adventures.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

FromSoftware’s first attempt at creating an open-world soulslike game was incredibly successful, both quality and popularity-wise. No wonder the game is getting a new expansion.

And it’s going to be a single-player one. Unfortunately, a lot is subject to speculation, as there aren’t really any specific details on what Shadow of the Erdtree will bring. Some say there’s going to be a huge new land to explore. Whether this is true or not, we’ll find out sometime in 2024.

When? Well, the expansion has been delayed quite significantly, but new rumors suggest it might drop in February 2025, just in time for the anniversary of Elden Ring’s original release.

Payday 3: Boys in Blue

Starbreeze Studios’ third heist simulator, Payday 3 is surely getting a lot of attention and love from its developers.

One of the expansions planned for 2024 is Boys in Blue. Why did we pick this one? Well, it’s rumored to be pretty big. First off, it’s going to give us a new heist (or heists). Second, we are to get two new playable characters: Joy and Pearl. Third, this DLC will mark Payday 3’s transition to Unreal Engine 5. Neat, isn’t it?

The owners of Silver and Gold editions of Payday 3 should get the DLC for free. Its release date? Sometime in spring 2024. There are also more expansions coming our way.

That’s it for now. Be sure to revisit us often in order to find hot deals on the upcoming premieres, video games and DLCs for those alike. Good hunting!
