Minecraft features a variety of creatures that players can tame. You can, for example, catch, keep, and breed sheep, pandas, chickens, or even horses. Polar bears are fascinating mobs, but they’re quite different from the pets you might be familiar with.

Polar bears are only located in the icy biomes of Minecraft. Players can find both adult and baby polar bears out in the wild, and they are both tamable. They travel in parties of one to four bears; the easiest way to tame one is to aim for single bears that don’t have a cub with them. Polar bears become quite aggressive when they have a cub nearby, so players should be extra cautious when attempting to tame one from a group.

Here’s a quick guide on how to tame, feed, and use them as pets.

Are They Dangerous?

Polar bears come in two varieties: neutral and aggressive. Cubs and adult bears are neutral mobs. A bear becomes aggressive when the player attacks it. If a player attacks a cub, all nearby adults within a 41 x 41 x 21 block radius will become aggressive. This also happens on the peaceful difficulty setting, but the polar bears do not deal damage then. An adult also becomes aggressive when the player approaches them within a 21 x 21 x 21 block area and there is a young polar bear within a 16 x 16 x 8 block area. Polar bears will also attack any mobs that pose a threat.

A polar bear’s swimming speed is faster than the player’s, making it difficult to escape from them. When they attack, they stand on their hind legs and then hit the player with their front paws. Polar bears can be caught using a leash. The growth of young bears cannot be accelerated. Additionally, polar bears are known to attack foxes.

Polar bears are violent when a cub is close, although they can also be passive and turn hostile if the player attacks the cub. Interestingly, polar bears will only attack in this manner if the cub is not killed in a single hit. Players who manage to kill the cub in one attack should escape the wrath of the adults nearby.

When assaulted, polar bear adults will band together to defend their buddies. If a group of adults is nearby with no cubs, they will rush to defend other polar bears if a player attacks them.

Tame Polar Bear Minecraft

Polar bears can’t be tamed in the traditional sense, like cats or dogs. However, you can leash them using a lead. To do this: craft a lead – you’ll need 4 strings and 1 slimeball and then use it by right-clicking on the polar bear with the lead to attach it.

Polar bears can only be tamed by feeding them an abundance of fish, so players must catch some before attempting to tame these white, ice-loving bears in their Minecraft world. In order to catch fish in Minecraft, players must use a fishing rod. There are several methods to obtain one, including crafting, raiding castles or stealing from the villagers. Enchanted fishing rods may also be discovered in underwater ruins, which can be explored with Potions of Water Breathing in Minecraft.

In Minecraft, each tool enchantment on fishing rods increases fishing speed by 5 seconds. Fishing is most effective in clear weather, with water exposed to direct sunlight or moonlight. If fishing bobbers are not exposed to sunlight or moonlight, the time between catches roughly doubles, with rain further slowing the process. To catch as many fish as possible in a short amount of time, players should fish with an enchanted rod outside in the sunshine while the weather is clear.

What Do Polar Bears Eat in Minecraft

Polar bears enjoy salmon, which can be found almost anywhere. Salmon and other fish may also be used to train cats and entice dolphins into taking players to secret underwater locations. If players do not want to go through the hassle of fishing for salmon, they can kill polar bears to get raw salmon, which can then be used to tame remaining bears.

Players should bring several fish for each bear they intend to tame. Feed the fish to the polar bear, then repeat until hearts appear over their heads. It will take several fish for each bear, so keep enough on hand. Once the hearts appear, the bear is tamed.

Spawning and Killing

Polar bears cannot reproduce, therefore players will not be able to raise a cub to adulthood like they may with other pets and animals. Adult polar bears have around 30 hit points of health. Polar bears are capable of doing significant damage, therefore players should exercise caution while approaching them. On easy mode, a polar bear adult will attack an unarmored or shielded player for three hit points of damage, which increases to five on normal and eight on hard level.

So, Do They Make a Good Minecraft Pet or Not?

Polar bears are far more helpful as pets than as a consistent source of experience and treasure. While you can’t make polar bears follow you or perform tricks, you can keep them in an enclosure using leads and fences. This way, they won’t wander off and can add an arctic touch to your base. Players may utilize polar bears to fight, defend, and ride. Polar bears are among the most beneficial creatures to tame in Minecraft.
