What if you wanted to duke it out with console players on Valorant? Does this game support cross-play? Let’s find out.

Until 2024 Valorant was a PC exclusive. Console players who wanted to try out this major success of an online shooter ultimately got their chance, first through a Limited Beta and then a full release on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

Does this mean that the game supports cross-play, though?

Unfortunately, the answer is: no. PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 users can only play with others on their platform. This means that, say, PC-based players cannot play with PlayStation 5 ones.

The rationale behind this is that console versions of Valorant are “custom-built” according to Riot, so the developer did not want to ruin the experience for any platform with cross-play features.

This probably means that this option will probably never make it to Valorant. And it’s understandable, as there are major differences between control schemes on PC and consoles, so there will be no unfair advantages and the like.

Naturally, Riot might figure a way for console and PC players to play together in the future, so never say never, but at the moment the answer to the “Is Valorant crossplay?” question is a resounding no.

Still, it’s great that Valorant ended up on consoles. This game was long desired by fans of PS5 and Xbox. Now they can totally give Riot’s hero shooter a shot.

After all, it’s been a major success and is now one of the most popular online games on the market. And while playing with a gamepad is totally different from the keyboard mouse setup, players have so far been positive about the experience, saying Riot did a great job translating it to gamepads. As you can see, it’s a blast to play, so you should give Valorant a shot regardless of the platform you play on, especially now it’s a free-to-play title.

What is Valorant, anyway?

Well, if you ended up here not knowing what Valorant is, here’s a quick scoop. Valorant is a highly popular team-based first-person shooter which can be described as a mix between Counter-Strike and Overwatch, but with its own flavor making it totally distinct from these two titles.

With a wide variety of heroes, weapons, maps, and modes to choose from, this game is bound to keep you busy for hundreds, even thousands of hours on end. And it’s a free-to-play game, so you can just dive in without spending a single buck!
