In July 2024 September 2024, the continuation of the highly successful Frostpunk from 2018 will premiere. This title combines strategy, survival and city building elements, set in a winter, apocalyptic setting.

The first instalment was already very well received by players, and Frostpunk 2 promises to be even better! We already know that the game will be available in two versions – Standard and an extended Deluxe Edition.

What do they look like, how do they differ, and which one is worth buying? You’ll find the answers to these questions in the article below!

Standard Edition

Just like its predecessor, Frostpunk 2 is created and published by the Polish 11 bit studios, and the game will initially be released on PC.

In this title, players once again take on the role of the ruler of New London – one of the last bastions of humanity after a frosty apocalypse that destroyed life on Earth at the end of the 19th century. For the past three decades, the few survivors have built settlements and cities around coal-powered generators, which provided warmth. However, coal is running out, and the hope for sustaining life in the cities lies in underground oil deposits.

Increasingly cautious resource management, nomads occupying the outskirts of cities, crime, and adverse weather conditions are reasons for the growing rebellions. As rulers, our task is to ensure the safety of the city, further its development, and prevent the overthrow of our authority. And this task is definitely not an easy one…

So, as you can see, even the Standard Edition of the game, which includes only the full, basic version of Frostpunk 2, provides a lot of challenges and excitement. Unfortunately, unlike many newly released games, pre-ordering the Frostpunk 2 Standard Edition does not come with any additional bonuses.

Deluxe Edition

The situation is entirely different for the extended version of the game, the Deluxe Edition! This version not only includes the full, basic version of the game but also a range of extras:

  • Three paid DLCs, which will be released after the game’s premiere, on unspecified dates
  • The ‘Warm Flesh’ digital novella set in the Frostpunk universe
  • Official digital art book & soundtrack

If you decide to purchase before the official premiere, you’ll also get:

  • Closed beta access to part of the Sandbox mode (The beta will be activated in April 2024, will last only a week, and will never be activated again)
  • 72-hour early access to the story mode before the official game premiere

Which version to choose?

Frostpunk 2 Standard Edition: What’s Included

  • Base Game
  • No pre-order bonuses

Frostpunk 2 Deluxe Edition

  • Everything in Standard Edition
  • Three future DLCs
  • ‘Warm Flesh’ Digital Novella
  • Official Digital Art Book & Soundtrack
  • Closed Beta Access in April 2024 (7 days)

Well, as with many other games, it all depends on what you expect. If you’re a casual player and only interested in the basic version of the game because you know it will provide you with many months of entertainment, go for the Standard Edition.

However, if you love digital extras such as art books and official soundtracks, you’re interested in the novella set in the game’s universe, and you’re excited about the possibility of testing the game not only three days before others but already in April… Then you should definitely go for the Deluxe Edition and decide to buy it as soon as possible!
