Hello and welcome to our comprehensive guide on all Fallout 4 romance options, ranked – made especially for those who, like us, believe love never changes.
Today, you’ll find that one genuine affection amidst the wastes of the wasteland, so prepare yourself and open your heart to these exciting love interests. Our romanceable characters are the perfect answer to the needs of lonely wanderers lacking companions and relationships – don’t wait any longer and fall in love! (or use them for their sets of pretty handy skills)
1. Curie
Since this female partner starts as Miss Nanny Robot, you might not see her as a good romance option. Big mistake! Curie is the most fascinating candidate on this list, offering more than you might initially think. Her laser weapon and large health pool are great for combat, and her intriguing French accent makes every journey much more entertaining. And that’s not all, as her Emergent Behavior quest (which you should complete) allows her to become quite the hot synth.
How do you unlock your relationship with Curie? You can find her at the end of the Hole in the Wall quest in Vault 8. Convince her to travel with you and help her become a synth to unlock the romance option. But beware, this character has an exceptionally gentle personality, a good moral compass, and prefers peaceful solutions. She doesn’t encourage theft, so do everything you can to earn her trust. You get the most interesting travel company and the Combat Medic perk – definitely worth the effort!
2. Paladin Danse
Don’t choose Paladin Danse as a romance option if you prefer good-only characters. This man is strongly devoted to the Brotherhood of Steel, makes a powerful ally on the battlefield, and provides interesting story elements. However, you may find his company challenging if you don’t intend to join the Brotherhood of Steel.
While this guy is likable and handsome, many players may disapprove of his dislike for other races, like synths, ghouls, and super mutants. Any encounters with these examples result in his rage, as the man believes all of them should die for the Commonwealth’s good. If all this sounds like fun, head to Cambridge Police Station or at The Prydwen after completing the Shadow of Steel quest to meet him. You must also join the Brotherhood of Steel, complete Danse’s Tour of Duty quest, and enjoy modifying and upgrading your armor or weapons to impress him. All this effort rewards you with Danse’s charming company and 20 percent bonus damage against Ghouls, Synths, and Super Mutants.
3. Preston
The greatest dream of this good-only character is to help the settlers and build the settlement system. Preston doesn’t like violence, cynicism, drug addiction, burglary, or theft, so try to be as good as possible to finally win his heart. Does it sound like an ideal partner? You may change your mind knowing he’s one of those characters who never leave the player alone with more tasks. If you can’t stand nagging, better ignore him.
But if you feel up to the challenge and want to help the settlers, you can find him in the Museum of Freedom. Get rid of Deathclaw and head to Sanctuary Hills to complete The First Step quest. Once you have completed all the tasks, you can start a fiery romance with this idealistic man. Furthermore, he provides a highly profitable perk of increased damage dealt by 20 percent and 20 Damage Resistance when battling against three or more enemies at once!
4. Piper Wright
You can meet this human journalist in Diamond City, where she and her sister run the Publick Occurrences newspaper. As you might guess, her search for the truth often gets her into trouble, especially with the local authorities. However, the woman does everything she can to share news with the public, unravel shady plots, and help the innocent. She likes people who work with the Minutemen, help others, pick locks, don’t steal, and don’t abuse violence.
You can meet her in Diamond City after completing the Dangerous Minds or Story of the Century quests. Since the character rewards morally correct choices, she’s one of the most popular romance options among long-time fans of the game. Win her heart by being good, and you will be rewarded with fantastic company and bonus experience for successful Persuasion and exploring new locations!
5. Robert MacCready
Familiar to Fallout 3 players, this returning character is a mercenary with a rather tragic past. Since his wife died in a brutal encounter with wild ghouls, MacCready has been exploring the wasteland with his only sick child in search of a cure for a mysterious disease. That requires some desperate actions and dedication!
You can hire him for 250 caps (200 if you have more Charisma points) at Third Rail in Goodneighbor. MacCready will like you more if you steal, pick locks, and use violence, although he’s not a fan of drug addiction. It’s a particularly beneficial romance option since it brings a 20 percent increased chance of scoring headshots when using V.A.T.S.
6. Porter Gage
Introduced in Fallout 4’s Nuka-World DLC, Porter Gage is the perfect romance option for players looking to play evil. The man is a raider who loves violence, theft, weapon modification, lockpicking, and murdering others. The more you indulge in these activities, the more likely he is to fall in love with your character.
How can one recruit him? You can find him at Fizztop Gille in Nuka-World. Complete the An Ambitious Plan quest, and you can start your adventure together! Porter Gage may not be the best choice for players who prefer to play good, but he’s an excellent companion in combat. Moreover, he arrives with five percent more experience per kill and 10 Damage Resistance.
7. Cait
This next not-so-good character spent the last few years of her life as a slave and then a cage fighter addicted to Psycho. While it’s possible to help her live a better life, Cait makes an excellent companion for players who appreciate the carefree nature of the post-apocalyptic world.
Head to the Combat Zone in the Theater District of Boston and chat with her to get her attention. Then do everything irresponsibly – drink a lot of alcohol, lose yourself in violence, and steal. Do everything you can to show no compassion and become the most selfish version of yourself. By living this dangerous lifestyle, you can count on more information about her backstory and Action Points regenerating 25 percent faster when your health is 25 percent or below.
8. Hancock
This ghoul is also the mayor of Goodneighbor town, whom you can meet during your first visit to this location. He seems odd due to his tendency towards violence and peaceful solutions. Hancock doesn’t like theft or selfishness but doesn’t mind Chems. He may seem violent, but has a heart of gold.
You can win it by completing The Big Dig quest! Impress him by taking Chems, defending the innocent, and living a nudist lifestyle. It’s a rather weird combination, but worth the effort. Plus, he provides a 20 percent faster Critical Hate rate if you have at least 250 rads.
9. Magnolia
While she can’t be a companion, Magnolia is a great romance option for those looking to immerse themselves in the post-apocalyptic world. She’s also a synth and a talented singer, working at the Third Rail bar. You can romance her once, but pursuing a long-term relationship with that character is impossible.
How to seduce her? Equip yourself with high charisma and head to the Third Rail bar in Goodneighbor to chat with Magnolia. That’s it! After the date, you won’t be able to flirt with her anymore, so enjoy this one-time adventure, adding some flavor to the classic Fallout 4 experience. Plus, you’ll get a temporary perk of 15 percent additional experience for eight in-game hours.
10. Gilda Broscoe
Like Magnolia, Gilda Broscoe is not a companion but a one-time romance option. To make things more fun, she’s also a robobrain available in the Far Harbor DLC. While she may not look like it now, Gilda was once a famous and beautiful actress who paid for a place in Vault 118 and underwent surgery to transfer her brain into a robotic body.
You can meet her during the Brain Dead quest. All you have to do to seduce Gilda is pass five speech checks and go on a date. She may not be the most exciting romance option in the game, but she’s worth the effort if you want to learn more about this brutal world. She also provides a temporary perk of 15 percent additional experience for eight in-game hours.
Conclusion
Did any of our candidates catch your eye? If so, now you know how to conquer their hearts! As you can see, there truly is something for everyone, whether you prefer a good or evil play style. Alternatively, you can ignore these options and enjoy one-time encounters with characters like Magnolia or Gilda. Have fun!
