God of War: Ragnarök is the fifth main instalment of the series, which began in 2005, and a direct sequel to the 2018 God of War, which was a reboot of the franchise, this time based on Norse mythology with many new gameplay mechanics.

Ragnarök premiered on PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles in 2022, but now, in 2024, PC gamers will finally get to experience it on their favourite platform. The release is scheduled for September 19th, but pre-orders are already available, along with additional bonuses.

The game will be released in two editions. What are these editions, and what do they contain? We’ll answer these and other questions below!

God of War: Ragnarök Standard Edition

  • Base Game
  • Valhalla DLC
  • No Digital Deluxe Extras
  • No Physical Collector’s Edition Content

God of War: Ragnarök Digital Deluxe Edition

  • Base Game
  • Valhalla DLC
  • Digital Soundtrack
  • Dark Horse Digital Mini Artbook
  • Kratos Darkdale Armour
  • Atreus Darkdale Attire
  • Darkdale Blade Handles for the Blades of Chaos
  • Darkdale Axe Grip for the Leviathan Axe
  • Pre-Order Bonuses: Risen Snow Armour for Kratos and Risen Snow Tunic for Atreus
  • Cosmetic Items and Weapon Upgrades Available After Completing Initial Missions

God of War: Ragnarök Editions

Unlike the PlayStation console release, the PC versions of the game lack a physical Collector’s Edition. This means that, unfortunately, those who are still waiting to play the new God of War will have to go without the several-inch Mjölnir statue and decorative steelbook. But don’t worry! The editions prepared for PC also come with great content!

The first of these is, of course, the Standard Edition, which includes the game. But that’s not all! In addition to the base game, you’ll also get last year’s Valhalla DLC with this edition.

Is that not enough for you? Then you should opt for the God of War: Ragnarök Digital Deluxe Edition. Here, of course, you’ll get the base game along with the latest DLC, but also:

  • God of War Ragnarök Digital Soundtrack
  • Dark Horse Digital Mini Artbook
  • Kratos Darkdale armour
  • Atreus Darkdale attire
  • Darkdale blade handles for the Blades of Chaos
  • Darkdale axe grip for the Leviathan Axe

Interestingly, you’ll still need to unlock the cosmetic items and weapon upgrades in the game. This means they won’t be available to you right away, but will serve as a bonus after completing the first few missions.

Both God of War: Ragnarök Standard and Digital Deluxe Edition will be available exclusively in digital form, to be activated on Steam or Epic Games Store.

Is It Worth Pre-Ordering?

As we mentioned earlier, there are still a few days until the release, but you can (and should) pre-order the game now.

All those who decide to pre-order, in addition to the content depending on the chosen edition, will also receive Kratos’ Risen Snow armour and Atreus’ Risen Snow tunic cosmetics. However, just like with the additional content in the Digital Deluxe Edition, you will need to unlock these unique armours in the game first. They will become available after completing the first Path Quest, “Surviving Fimbulwinter”.

Summary

God of War was one of the most important and beloved PlayStation console exclusives – but luckily, those days are over, and PC gamers can finally delve into Kratos’ story on their own hardware.

Can’t wait for the release and wondering which version to choose? Well, that depends on whether you’re just interested in the game or if you love all the extras and bonuses that the expanded editions offer. However, regardless of the version you choose, act quickly with your purchase! Pre-order is the only chance to get unique cosmetic bonuses completely for free!
