Sacred Seals in Elden Ring are used for casting Incantations – one of the magic types available in the game.

Unlike the Inteligence-based Sorceries, Incantations require their user to invest in their Faith stat. But Faith alone is not enough – you won’t be able to cast Incantations without the proper Sacred Seal.

With many different types of Seals, you might ask yourself which one is the most optimal for you. Worry not – we’re here to help you choose!

What should you consider when choosing a Sacred Seal?

Each Sacred Seal has specific requirements, usually related to your Faith stat. If you equip a Seal without meeting its requirements you won’t be able to cast Incantations, so keep an eye on your stats.

Apart from Faith, some seals also require a certain level of a secondary stat.

For example, you must invest in your Arcane stat if you want to make use of the Dragon Communion Seal, and to use the Golden Order Seal, your Intelligence has to be high enough.

Another crucial feature is the Seal’s scaling, which increases your effectiveness in accordance with the corresponding stats.

It’s a feature shared by most types of equipment in Elden Ring, and in the case of Seals, scaling affects the damage dealt by your offensive Incantations and healing granted by healing Incantations.

It will come as no surprise that Faith is generally used for Incantation scaling, but some Seals scale with a secondary stat as well.

It could be Arcane, Intelligence, or even Strength and Dexterity. How well a Seal scales is expressed by the scaling rating, where E is the worst and A is very good.

An S rating is the best you can get in the game. You can increase your Seal’s scaling rating by upgrading it, although by how much depends on the specific Seal. You’ll need Smithing Stones to upgrade your Seal.

Many Seals provide additional passive boosts that affect your Incantations’ damage output.

Those boosts are usually related to a specific type of Incantations – for example, The Giant’s Seal increases the damage of Giant’s Flame incantations, Clawmark Seal improves Bestial Incantations, and the Golden Order Seal – Gold Order Incantations.

Those boosts are especially worthwhile for players who have a preference for a specific type of Incantations.

The best Sacred Seals in Elden Ring

So, which Sacred Seal in Elden Ring is the best? The answer is – it depends. As is the case with most equipment in the game, you have to take your build into consideration when selecting the best Sacred Seal.

A Seal that’s perfect for a full Faith build might not work as well for a character that only dabbles in Incantations and doesn’t invest heavily into Faith.

Your playstyle might also affect your choice – a Seal that’s great for hurling balls of fire at your enemies can be subpar when it comes to healing.

But don’t worry – we’re not going to leave you with a „it depends”. Below, we have compiled a list of the best Sacred Seals depending on what you want to achieve.

Sacred Seals with the best Faith Scaling

For a full Faith build, Faith scaling will be the main thing to take into account. With that in mind, you can comfortably get through the whole game using three Seals – the Finger Seal, the Godslayer Seal, and the Erdtree Seal.

Each of them will be available and useful at different stages of the game, but they will keep you covered in early, mid and late game.

With a low Faith requirement and excellent Faith scaling, the Finger Seal is one of the best Seals for a full Faith build in the early game. It’s easily obtainable – you can buy it from the Twin Maid for 800 Runes, unless you play as a Confessor or a Prophet, in which case you will find it in your starting equipment. Despite that, it remains one of the best options until you get your Faith stat up to level 27. Just don’t forget to upgrade it as you go to make the most of what it has to offer.

27 is the Faith requirement for the Godslayer Seal, which, apart from great Faith scaling, also provides a passive boost to Black Flame Incantations. Once the Finger Seal becomes obsolete, the Godslayer Seal is the best choice for a full-faith caster for a good portion of the game.

By the time you hit Faith 69, you’ll want to switch to the Erdtree Seal. It provides the best Faith scaling you can get in the entire game, making it the best late-game seal for a versatile Incantation caster with a high Faith score. It’s especially good for healing spells, which only benefit from Faith scaling and ignore secondary stat scaling some other Seals provide.

Seals for diversified stat builds

While the abovementioned Seals are the most universal and versatile, builds that don’t rely solely on Faith can also benefit from Seals that use a secondary stat for scaling.

Keep in mind that it’s very difficult (though not impossible) for any Seal to outclass a fully upgraded Erdtree Seal used by a character with 80 Faith or more.

But since 80 Faith is often not what you’re going for in a build that utilizes other stats, check out the options below to see which Seal might be a better option for you.

If you are a magic user who relies on both Incantations and Sorceries, you might want to consider using the Golden Order Seal. It provides excellent scaling for both Intelligence and Faith, while also giving a 10% passive boost to the Golden Order Incantations.

The Golden Order Seal has the potential to outclass the Erdtree Seal in the hands of a Faith 80 character, but to achieve that, you’ll need to get up to at least 41 Int and 80 Faith. This makes it a great Seal for very high levels.

If your preferred stat is Arcane, the Dragon Communion Seal is a fantastic choice. It scales with Arcane and Faith, and at lower levels, its Arcane scaling is actually better than Faith scaling.

Interestingly, a character with 45 Arcana will deal more damage than a Faith 45 character with any other Seal – although this advantage doesn’t last. The 15% passive boost to Dragon Communion Incantations is also nothing to scoff at.

On top of that, thanks to the Arcane scaling, the Seal increases the buildup of status effects such as Bleed and Poison.

A Strength/Faith hybrid build will benefit from the Claw Mark Seal. Its Strength scaling is better than its Faith scaling, making it a great seal for Strength-based builds without investing too much into another stat.

This Seal can also be effectively two-handed for a 50% bonus to Strength, further increasing the damage you can deal with it. It also boosts the damage dealt by Bestial Incantations by 10%.

Dexterity builds and quality builds might be tempted by the Frenzied Flame Seal, which scales with multiple stats – Faith, Dexterity, Strength, and Intelligence.

The scaling levels aren’t great, but it can fit a jack-of-all-trades character while providing a 20% buff to Frenzied Flame Incantations.

Maximizing your Seals’ potential

If you have a preference for a specific type of Incantations, Sacred Seals that provide passive boosts to that type can be very tempting.

It’s worth noting that passive boosts stack multiplicatively, which means that wielding two seals with a 20% boost to Frenzied Flame Incantations will result in a boost of 44%.

When you wield two seals, your Incantations will only be scaled by the one in your main hand – however, boosts will be applied even if the seal that provides them is equipped in the off-hand.

Equipping a Finger, Godslayer or Erdtree Seal in your main hand and a Seal with your preferred passive boost in the other hand can be the optimal combination for dealing damage with your favourite Incantations.

Summary

As you can see, it’s not easy to say which Sacred Seal is the best without considering your specific needs – your level, build and playstyle will affect your choices when it comes to Seal selection.

While the Finger, Godslayer, and Erdtree Seals are usually a safe and reliable choice, you can benefit from trying out different combinations – especially if you’re not a full Faith caster.

Now that you know which Sacred Seals can be considered best for you, it’s time to return to the Lands Between and give them a go.
