Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a jRPG set in a fantasy world, released on April 23, 2023. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Switch, and was published by 505 Games. It was developed by Rabbit & Bear Studios, which includes Yoshitaka Murayama, the creator of the Suikoden series developed and published by Konami since 1995, along with several other veterans of the franchise.
Due to the similar development team and distinctive atmosphere, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is considered the spiritual successor to the aforementioned series.
Plot
The game takes us to the continent of Allraan, inhabited by humans, beastyn, elves, dwarves and more. Their centuries-long conflicts have shaped the history and technology (mainly magic-based) of this place.
A key role in this world is played by the Galdean Empire, the most advanced kingdom, mastering technology that utilizes magical Rune-Lenses. The Empire regularly organizes expeditions to search for these Lenses to solidify its position as the leader and the most powerful country in Allraan.
During one of these expeditions, an officer named Seign Kesling encounters a warrior from a small village, named Nowa. The young man joins the expedition, and a friendship quickly forms between him and Seign.
Their joint search proves fruitful, as the group discovers the most powerful of all - the primal Lenses. When the artifact is brought to Galdean, it is revealed that the political and military mastermind Dux Aldric plans to use it for nefarious purposes and his own gain. Now, Nowa must start his own fight and stop Aldric from executing his sinister plan.
Gameplay
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a classic jRPG that draws heavily from the aforementioned Suikoden. The game features exploration of a colourful world full of fantastic creatures, completing quests, solving puzzles, and engaging in turn-based tactical battles, where players control a team of six recruited characters.
Regarding character recruitment, the game offers around 100 unique heroes, each with their own special skills and deep backstories. Moreover, some characters may reveal secrets and possess special skills that will help in winning the war.
A significant aspect of the game is the development and upgrading of a town, as well as its management. Recruited characters can reside in the town and be assigned to various tasks, such as becoming its guards, blacksmiths, or cooks. They can also join guilds, which provide the team with new, unique abilities.
