Lucasarts Games
LucasArts, now known as Lucasfilm Games, is a company that was once responsible for making video games mainly based on Lucasfilm movies. Founded by George Lucas himself, the company released iconic games such as Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, Star Wars series, and the Indiana Jones series.
Lucasarts Games
We didn’t hear from the company too much in the last decade, so naturally, you may be wondering why did LucasArts stop making games, despite releasing successful titles that often met with critical acclaim and brought the studio praise and fame. The answer is rather simple – that’s because the company was acquired by Disney quite some time ago. A small team that remains at LucasArts now takes care almost exclusively of license-related matters, while most of the development work is done by Disney’s game development branch.
Classic LucasArts Games
If you’re looking for some great LucasArts video games, make sure to give Monkey Island a try. It’s arguably one of the company’s best games ever made, and even if you’re not into adventure games, you should at least give it a go. It combines a solid dose of humor, a unique pirate atmosphere, and quite difficult puzzles to solve, to deliver players with an unforgettable experience.
Speaking of LucasArts adventure games, there is also Grim Fandango – a one-of-a-kind game where you’ll be playing as an employee of the Department of Death, where your job is to help the souls of recently deceased individuals find their way to a peaceful rest. The game contains tons of humorous dialogues and features a rarely used theme that draws a lot of inspiration from Aztec culture, noir films, and calaca figures. The atmosphere is further enhanced by the fact that characters often use Spanish words while speaking English, which results in a funny Spanglish mix.
New Lucasfilm Games
Alternatively, if you’re looking for more recent games based on LucasArts movies but made by different companies, don’t miss Star Wars Battlefront II from 2017. The game offers incredible visuals and a genuine Star Wars atmosphere – you can really feel like you’re a part of that amazing universe. Although the game comes with a single-player campaign, you’ll probably spend most of your playing time in multiplayer, where the real game begins. Huge battles that take place both on the ground and in the air in familiar sci-fi environments are something you wouldn’t want to miss, even if you’re not a regular SW fan.
There are, of course, more entries on the LucasArts games list to choose from. Games such as:
- LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga,
- Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis,
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II,
- Sam & Max Hit the Road,
just to name a few. Considering how many different LucasArts games there are, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find something that will suit your taste.
