Call of Duty Games List
Call of Duty series is one of the most popular first-person shooter franchises. Since its first installment released in 2003, the series has undergone several changes, mainly in its setting. Throughout the series, players visited the battlefields of almost every major conflict of the 20th and 21st century and even some made-up ones taking place in the future. In this article, we'll look at how the series shaped the FPS gaming landscape and present the list of the installment of the Call of Duty franchise.
We were soldiers
One thing that cannot be denied about the Call of Duty series is how innovative it was in terms of setting and storytelling. While Medal of Honor - another WWII FPS series, predating COD by fifteen years - at that time focused on the typical stories of a lone American soldier on the battlefields of WWII, Call of Duty presented the conflict from various perspectives. In the first installment of the series, the player could play as American and British soldiers in occupied France and Red Army soldats fighting to defend their country. Unlike many of the nameless grunts of other FPS titles, COD protagonists were fleshed out. Their stories, especially in the later installments of the series, were told in a very cinematic style.
The gameplay of COD games was also different than in other FPS's at that time. More focus was placed on the team war effort, with the player often being accompanied by AI squadmates. This made the COD series feel more faithful to the actual war scenarios, where battles are decided by cooperation between the units, not one person's valiant efforts.
From Omaha Beach to Outer Space
Call of Duty series took the players through various conflicts of the 20th and early 21st century. The first installments focused on the gruesome fighting in the trenches of WWII. Modern Warfare sub-series introduced the franchise to modern conflicts, and Black Ops games had the player participate in the proxy wars between the US and Soviet Union. While most of the games in the series were set in more or less believable circumstances, some took the ball and ran with it as far as they could. That way, we'd got Advanced Warfare, later installments of the Black Ops series, and finally Infinite Warfare, which was partially set in outer space.

Over the last 18 years, the Call of Duty series has released over 20 titles. The main games of the series at generally divided into the three sub-series below:
- The World War II series - Call of Duty 1-3, COD: World at War, COD: World War II
- Modern Warfare series - Modern Warfare 1-3, 2019 reboot, Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare
- Black Ops series - Call of Duty: Black Ops - Black Ops IIII, COD: Black Ops Cold War
- Call of Duty: Ghosts - a standalone title unrelated to any of the above sub-series
